This is the true story of Kurt Weishaupt, a naive, selfish Jewish young man who starts out as a poor farmer in 1930s Germany, and turns into one of the most beloved philanthropists in the US, giving over 150M, saving the lives of thousands of children worldwide.
Kurt was quite a character in real life.
We had the opportunity to meet him and talk to him on several occasions as he was our dad's mentor; they were both stamp dealers. My dad told us once (proudly) "Kurt was the only dealer to work without contracts. His word was as solid as gold." He touched our lives deeply over the years...
The feature-length script traces the 6 years of his harrowing escape through Europe with his new young bride Trude, how Kurt came to make that promise, and why he kept his word. Their life motto became "Help Yourself. Help Your Family. Help the World."
My brother (writer/director Carlo De Rosa) and I want to tell the amazing story of an unusual true journey, one that WILL deeply move audiences BECAUSE it's in our DNA to understand the peril of this young man and this young woman, one that is so visual it will attract top-tier filmmakers, with roles so textured and extraordinary they will be alluring to name actors of the day.
